The 2013 Ford Escape is one of the most popular small SUVs available today, but is it the best? One of the Escape’s major competitors, the 2013 Chevrolet Equinox, gives it a reason to be uncomfortable.
Both vehicles make excellent choices for individuals and families who want affordable, fuel-efficient, spacious SUVs. But when compared side-by-side, which one is superior?
The 2014 Ford Escape Challenges the 2014 Chevy Equinox
For many consumers, interior comfort, design, and convenience is an important part of a car’s overall quality. Drivers obviously spend more time inside the car than looking at the exterior, so it’s no surprise that interior is important. The Equinox has one of the best interiors available. In fact, U.S. News & World Report gave the interior of the Equinox an 8.5 rating. The 2013 Escape only managed a 7.6.
The Equinox also has the popular Chevy MyLink technology, one of the most advanced and convenient infotainment systems. The 2013 Ford Escape, however, has the often criticized MyFord Touch system, which is known for being confusing and overly complex.
Under the hood, the Equinox gets better power and torque than the comparable 2013 Ford Escape. The 2.5L four-cylinder engine in the Escape get 168 horsepower and 170 lbs of torque, while the base Equinox with a 2.4L four-cylinder puts out 182 horses and 172 lbs of torque. While we’re at it, the Equinox also gets slightly better gas mileage, with an average 32 mpg highway compared to the 31 mpg highway in the Focus.
