Looking for speed? Looking for raw, untethered power? Well, my friend, you have you options. The performance car segment is making a comeback, led by auto brands Chevrolet and Ford, who have had years of battles between the Ford Mustang and the Chevy Camaro.
For 2014, both automakers are stepping up the game. Ford is putting even more power into the base V6 in the Mustang, while Chevy has brought back the Z/28 version of the Camaro.
So what car provides drivers with the best performance and the best power? And while people who buy these cars are seeking excitement, which car provides the best infotainment?
When compared next to each other, the 2014 Ford Mustang and the 2014 Chevy Camaro make a great pair, but only one can be called the best.
2014 Ford Mustang Challenges the 2014 Chevy Camaro
To be fair, these cars both owe their success to the other. If Ford hadn’t created the Ford Mustang in 1964, the Chevy Camaro may never have been created. If the Camaro hadn’t pushed the limits of power and performance, the Mustang may never have progressed into the muscle-bound vehicle it is today.
But let’s look at a few key categories to see which car is better in 2014:
Performance: This one is close, and we’re willing to grant a draw on the performance category, mostly because of the wide majority of options in both vehicles. The base 2014 Mustang starts with a V-6, but buyers can go all the up to a fully loaded Shelby GT500. Along the way, they can tack on $40,000 or more. The base model of the Mustang gets about 305 hp, while a closely priced Camaro delivers similar numbers.
Exterior Style: This one comes down to personal preference, but we think the bull-doggish look of the Camaro is superior to the 2014 Mustang. We’re not the only ones who love the Camaro’s look, as U.S. News complimented the 2013 model, saying it has an “eye-catching exterior”, and the design it not changing drastically for the 2014 model.
Infotainment: I know what you’re saying, “these are performance cars, who cares about infotainment”. The truth is, if you’re going to own one of these cars for a few years, you’ll be glad you chose a vehicle with excellent convenience and technology features.
This category is a steal for the Camaro, mostly because the MyFord system found in the 2014 Mustang is difficult to use and often seen as overly complicated by past reviewers.
Once again, the Ford Mustang vs. Chevy Camaro was a close battle, but on close inspection the Camaro defeats the 2014 Ford Mustang.
