Car shoppers looking for an affordable sedan can turn to two models in particular for great fuel-economy and comfortable driving: The 2014 Toyota Corolla and the 2014 Chevy Cruze.
When compared side-by-side, it becomes clear that both cars are great choices for commuting and daily driving, but one is clearly superior for drivers looking for a more rewarding car-ownership experience.
Take a look at how the 2014 Toyota Corolla compares to the 2014 Chevy Cruze:
2014 Toyota Corolla vs 2014 Chevy Cruze
Features and Convenience:
The 2014 Corolla has a very basic cabin, with just enough features and materials to get by in today’s car market. Chevy, on the other hand, had a little more in mind for the 2014 Cruze, giving the car a wide range of features that are simply lacking in the 2014 Toyota Corolla. Because of the superior layout in the Cruze, U.S. News gave the car’s interior an 8.1 out of 10. The 2014 Toyota Corolla, on the other hand, received a very paltry 7.4.
Technology and Infotainment:
If you rely on modern technology and convenience on a daily basis, then you’ll feel right at home in the Chevy Cruze, while the 2014 Toyota Corolla will leave you a little disappointed. The Cruze simply has more of everything, from satellite radio to keyless entry, creating a car that is perfect for today’s drivers.
The following features are standard on a base 2014 Chevy Cruze LS, and unavailable on the base 2014 Toyota Corolla L*:
- Keyless entry
- Navigation from telematics
- Steering wheel controls
- Satellite radio
- Hands-free communications system

For a fun, enjoyable handling, the Chevy Cruze is the right choice. Quite frankly, the 2014 Toyota Corolla is not (nor was it meant to be) an exciting automobile. It is a dulled-down commuter, just the way it was intended. It’s not sporty or powerful; it’s built to go from Point A to Point B. On the other hand, the Cruze is well known for handling and performance.
Steven J. Ewing of Autoblog.com even wrote that “Toyota says that the chassis (in the 2014 Corolla) has been tuned to provide a sportier feel, but allow me to be the first to call shenanigans”, while U.S. News said that the 2014 Cruze delivers “strong performance”.
As you can see, the clear winner is the Cruze. While the 2014 Toyota Corolla makes a decent commuting vehicle, it simply can’t compete with the Cruze’s features and driving performance.
